Vanderbilt freshman Mikayla Blakes has made history. The freshman guard scored 55 points in the Commodores' 98-88 overtime win at Auburn on Sunday, breaking the NCAA freshman scoring record.
Twenty-three of her points came from free throws, with Blakes hitting all but one of her attempts. With the performance, Blakes broke the single-game Division I record of 54, set by Elena Delle Donne as a redshirt freshman at Delaware in 2010.
Blakes had previously set a true freshman scoring record, dropping 53 points against Florida on Jan. 30. On Sunday, she broke her own record, and Delle Donne's, to officially hold the top freshman spot.
